Jewish Women’s Circle — Women at The Chabad House had the opportunity to create a silkscreen canvas and to be inspired, thanks to a class Dec. 6 by a rabbi and artist. Rabbi Yitzchok Moully, of Hillside, N.J., led the program titled “What’s a Good Jewish Rabbi Doing with a Paint Brush?”

Moully — who is dubbed “rabbi by day and artist by night” — told his story as he guided the class in the creation of silkscreen canvas art.

The Chabad rabbi was inspirational, said Hindel Levitin, who leads the Jewish Women’s Circle. “His message was that when you have an art or a talent or passion, it’s not a contradiction to the service of God, you only have to direct it and use it to serve God. … Channel whatever passions you have to serve God; to me that was very meaningful, especially coming from someone who is an artist and an observant Jew.”

The women created such images as Torahs and Shabbat candles, and Hamantaschen, a triangular pastry representing the holiday miracle of Purim.

The group also enjoyed pre-Hanukkah treats, including donuts, latkes and hors d’oeuvres. See moullyart.com for the artist’s work.

On Monday, the synagogue will celebrate the birthday of Chabad with a dinner and talk by guest speaker Rabbi Greenberg of Buffalo, N.Y. See palmbeachjewish.com or call 659-3884.

* The Chabad House will host a Jewish Music for Kids and Moms celebration at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20. Hanukkah songs and activities and crafting a menorah to take home will be featured.
