Lieutenant Commander Laurie Lans is the
keynote speaker at the annual luncheon of
The Jewish Women’s Circle of Palm Beach
at The Chesterfield.

A rabbi’s wife who has served with the U.S. Department of Defense in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf will talk to other Jewish women about her experiences today.

Lt. Commander Laurie Lans is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at an annual luncheon of The Jewish Women’s Circle of Palm Beach at 11:30 a.m. at The Chesterfield, 363 Cocoanut Row, said Rebbetzin Hindel Levitin, of The Chabad House.

Some of Lans’ accomplishments during her tours of duty include erecting a giant menorah in Saddam Hussein’s palace in Baghdad, celebrating Passover in Hussein’s Hunting Lodge and arranging for a kosher Megillah to be read in Afghanistan, Levitin said.

“She’s just a great example of someone who is out there in the world making a difference for our country, as an American, and committed to her religious principles,” Levitin said. “People think you can’t be both, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.”

The event also will include a raffle, coffee carts, two workshops and a lunch.

Admission is $54 and sponsorships are offered at three levels — $180, $360 and $500.
