Yossi was born in Montreal in 1973 and is the oldest of the three children of Cantor Yitzchok and Adele Lebovics. Yossi has been thrilling audiences with his singing since he was a very young child and, over the years, young singers have often turned to him for advice and guidance. His patience, organization, and natural warmth also endear him to his many students and peers.
Cantor Yossi is an ordained rabbi, having studied in prestigious Yeshivas in Montreal, New Jersey, France, and New York. He is fluent in the traditional prayer style which he performs in a pleasing and musical fashion, blending in contemporary tunes. He has studied music and Cantorial art under Cantor David Bagley, Cantor Moshe Schulhof, and Mr. Jonathan White. He has made numerous concert appearances all over the United States as well as Central and South America, Canada, Europe, and Israel. He also sang the national anthem at the Miami Heat.
Today, Rabbi Cantor Yossi Lebovics serves as the chazzan of the Synagogue of Inverrary Chabad in Florida, except during the High Holidays when he leads the services in São Paulo, Brazil. He is also the principal of the Chaya Aydel Seminary since its inception in 2002. The seminary is a Jewish teachers’ college for young women in Hallandale, Florida, and attracts students from all over the world.
Rabbi Lebovics and his wife Chanie have ten children and three grandchildren.
