...‘God’s coronation’

The Palm Beach Jewish Center offers a variety of services and programs for the holidays. Rabbi Zalman Levitin invites everyone, regardless of background or affiliation, to attend dinner, services and programs for the High Holidays.

“The essence of the day of Rosh Hashana is that we crown God as King of the universe; it’s the time of God’s coronation,” Levitin said. “The truth is, with a click of the mouse, we can purchase a house or find a job. What is much more difficult to find is a source of authority in our lives.

“We can, of course, appoint our favorite psychologist, specialist or fashion guru as the authority in our lives. But in the end, that’s just another form of take-or-leave-it advice. The authority that we crave actually commands, not advises. At the same time, it is not something imposed upon us. It is something to which we submit to because we recognize it as our true self.

“On Rosh Hashana, we devote two days to this search of the authority we yearn for: accepting Hashem as our King, nurturing a relationship with Him and recognizing that God is the one who is the source for all the blessings we ask for.”
