Comedian Marc Weiner to headline Palm Beach Jewish Center gala

Rebbetzin Hindel Levitin looks at the upcoming annual dinner/gala at the Palm Beach Jewish Center as an early Purim.
"Purim (Feb. 28) is a holiday of laughter and fun," Levitin said. "Humor allows you to be open and joyous, which is the best way to serve God and provides for the most fulfilling life. Everybody can use a good laugh."
Levitin and The Jewish Women's Circle of Palm Beach have secured comedian Marc Weiner to present his one-man show, Living la Vida Jewish, at 7 Thursday night.
A comic for more than 27 years, Weiner has appeared regularly on Saturday Night Live, HBO comedy specials, a three-year run on Nickelodeon with his own kids' variety show, and dozens of other television, movie and comedy club appearances.
"He's been pretty popular on television," Levitin said. "We were really lucky to get him. Everyone who I talked to said he's terrific and I thought his story is interesting because he became Orthodox later in life. Since becoming Orthodox, he found some of the Jewish rituals interesting and I'm sure we'll have a good laugh with it. Even those who are unaffiliated will enjoy it."
The cost is $40 per person, which includes the dinner, program and gift bag. The event is open to couples and singles, and will take place at the synagogue, 205 Royal Palm Way.
In addition to Weiner's one-man show, Levitin said there will be "a delicious buffet dinner, a beautiful video presentation and terrific auction prizes for the practical Yiddishe Mama, or the shopaholic teenager, or the gadget-obsessed male or the passionate gift-giver."
Vivian Kroner worked on this year's program as well as in past years.
"I look forward to this every year," Kroner said. "Hindel Levitin is our leader and everything she does is flawless. The evening should be a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to enjoying myself and to watching everyone else enjoy the evening."
