Chabad of Northern Palm Beach Island will host a Shabbaton this weekend highlighted by inspirational songs and messages.
The guest cantor will be Yossi Lebovics, who is also a rabbi and a seminary principal. His wife Chanie, who is an educator, also will be part of the service, along with their nine children, ages 11 months to 12 years.
Saturday services will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by kiddush. Rabbi Zalman Levitin, who met Yossi when they had rabbinical studies in 1994-95 in Paris, will give the sermon.
Lebovics will sing classic cantorial songs and Jewish songs and melodies that are crowd favorites, he says. His wife will discuss how she balances career and family.
In addition, the 22 women who are graduating next week from the Chaya Aydel Seminary in Lauderhill, the only all-women’s Jewish teacher seminary, will participate as part of their community outreach. They will become future Jewish leaders and teachers, says Yossi Lebovics, who, along with Chanie, teach at the seminary.
Lebovics grew up in Canada in a family in which his father’s side had cantors and his mother’s side had rabbis. He says he uses his rabbinical skills at the seminary and his cantorial skills prove valuable at Synagogue of Inverrary in Hallandale Beach, where he is the chazan. During the high holidays, Lebovics leads services in São Paulo, Brazil. He has also sung theNational Anthem at Miami Heat Jewish Heritage Night.
