A tribute to the seventh leader in the Chabad-Lubavitch movement will take place Friday night.
The evening, hosted by Chabad of Northern Palm Beach Island, will begin at 7 p.m. at The Brazilian Court pavilion, 301 Australian Ave., and honor Menachem Mendel Schneerson, known as the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who died in 1994.
There will be Shabbat dinner, Chassidic melodies, and a chance to learn about the Rebbe’s life and teachings and his vision for Jewish people and the world.
“The Rebbe issued a call to every Jew: Even if you are not fully committed to a Torah life, do something. Begin with any mitzvah, large or small,” said Rabbi Zalman Levitin of The Chabad House.
“The Rebbe’s ultimate desire was to see our imperfect world enter a utopian era devoid of war and suffering, and replete with goodness and the pursuit of G‑dly knowledge,” according to the Chabad movement. Schneerson worked to “implement a plan that would bring the world to ‘a state of spiritual perfection,’ with the vision that the world’s social and physical perfection would follow.”
Levitin met the Rebbe numerous time. When he was 11, he received his blessing at the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn. The aim of the rebbe, who handed out thousands of dollar bills and blessings on Sundays and other times, was that the recipient give the dollar to charity.
“When two people meet, a third person should be helped,” he said of the Rebbe.
The Rebbe’s vision lives on through his movement and about 4,000 Chabad centers throughout the world.
RSVP to the evening by calling 420-5000 or see palmbeachjewish.com. A dessert buffet will be served.
