Jewish Women's Circle— Rishe Deitsch recently shared “Chassidic stories about serving G‑d with joy and sincerity” to the Caffeine for the Soul class that meets Mondays at 150 Worth. Deitsch is the senior editor of the international Chabad N’shei Chabad Newsletter (nsheichabadnewsletter.com) and mother of Hindel Levitin, teacher and rebbetzin at Chabad of Northern Palm Beach Island.
One story recalled reading mail to Lieba, a blind woman, accompanied by her young daughter Mirel, who asked what being blind meant.
Lieba told her.
“When [4-year-old] Mirel looked at me, I saw horror in her eyes,” Deitsch recalled. The thought that Lieba saw nothing “was painful for her to contemplate.”
Mirel prayed for Lieba to see even though Lieba’s blindness was genetic. Deitsch tried to convince Mirel to pray for something else. “But week after week, after candle-lighting, Mirel would stand there with her hands over her eyes and whisper to G‑d to help Lieba to see,” Deitsch wrote. “I just couldn’t convince her to pray for something more likely.”
And then, thanks to the invention of laser surgery, Lieba gained sight.
Deitsch wrote that Mirel taught her a lesson: “G‑d really can do anything, and we only have to turn to him and ask.
