Thanksgiving and Jewish history — A Thanksgiving program, “Were There Jews on the Mayflower?,” will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Chesterfield, 363 Cocoanut Row.
Rabbi Pinchas Taylor, who brings humor to his talks, will discuss the history of Thanksgiving, the participation of Jews and the lessons to be learned from it. “The people who came to the New World came for religious freedom, and saw themselves as reliving the biblical exodus from oppression. We, as Jews, must always be thankful for the freedoms and kindnesses that America grants us, and utilize these privileges to further our task in this world of being a shining light to the nations,” he said.
The evening is a project of The Chabad House and hosted by the Palm Beach Torah Institute, according to Rabbi Zalman Levitin.
Taylor is the director of adult education and outreach at Chabad of Plantation and a member of the Broward County Hospice. He also runs programs for Jews in addiction recovery.
The fee is $10. To register, call 659-3884 or email [email protected].
